About LU Cheerleading
The Lindenwood University cheerleading program combines hard work, dedication, and teamwork to make up one of the country’s top cheerleading programs. Under head coach Carrie Nichols and assistant coach Sarah Otto, the Lindenwood Cheerleading squad has become one of the elite programs in the nation. LU finished in the top 5 in the nation at NCA Collegiate Nationals out of the past three years as well as in the top 5 the two previous years. Most recently, Lindenwood Coed placed 3rd in 2006.
The Lindenwood Cheerleaders are also extremely active in the community. The squad members spend some of their free time judging many local competitions and high-school tryouts throughout the year as well as holding clinics for high schools and club squads year-round. LU also performs for elementary schools, high schools, and All-Star Cheerleading competitions. Annually, Lindenwood hosts the Missouri State Cheerleading Regional Competition in August, which is coupled with a performance for the competitors themselves. The squad has recently been showcased by a local news station to display their numerous skills and spirit and has also been asked to attend presidential rallies in the area.
Community service and competition are only two parts of many that enhance the squad’s school spirit. The cheerleaders attend and perform at all home football and basketball games as well as a select amount of games from other sports such as soccer, volleyball, etc. The squad also enjoys performing at pep-rallies, Freshman Orientation, and many other exciting school functions.
The squad annually holds tryouts in the late spring where participants are encouraged to show as many skills as they can. There is also the tryout for the nationals mat at the beginning of December. Some of the skills that the judges look for are standing and running tumbling, jumps, and all girl and coed stunting.
